Summer Cool

Thursday

Linn Olofsdotter is a mixed media artist who originates from sweden. Only when in her early twenties she realised she wanted to be an artist. Her colourful illustrations attract and provoke attention and for me this is the key to a piece of arts sucess. Taking this into mind she has become a sucessful illustrator who has been used in advertising for fashion, editorial, advertising and personal exhibits.
Her work is fantasy reality, her work references nature and ideas of magic through her work. These two pictures are my favourite pieces of her work because of the colour and shapes that are used to create impactual illustrations. Theese pictures arent daint and delicate they are in bright and in your face yet still have a tantalizing quality that entices me to them.

Sketchbook Pages

These are a few pages out of my sketchbook, the first one is a Baroque building which inspired me to use the detail of the windows and the dome shape to use for ideas. The second is a modernistic building in Dubai by Zaha Hadid is an Iraqi architect, who produces sculptural art in the form of architecture. I find his work highly influential however I don’t feel the lines are easy to translate onto designs. I have taken a few ideas from overall shape, that I feel can be used in my final designs. This building is in Dubai, and is one of my favourite pieces of architecture because of the shape and texture it creates.

Modernistic architecture helps me find and create new and innovative shapes/designs; I chose this building because I saw it as a challenge for myself. As when I first saw it I thought I could not get any ideas or inspiration from the shape colour or line. I drew a basic shape and then manipulated it to form a reflection of the shape to create an original shape; I feel that I have produced original futuristic shapes that can be adapted for multiple designs to suit all market levels. I feel that the plain shape or building that is heavily featured through most modernistic architecture is the hardest and most challenging to derive ideas from because of the plain shapes and angles; however
I feel I have overcome this by taking the simple line and experimenting to create a strong design idea.

Art or Architecture?

Santiago Calatrava is a Spanish architect, sculpture and structural engineer. I have been a fan of his work for a long time; I find the structure and shape in his designs inspirational to my designs and they are easy for me to draw from and take influence from. This picture of one of his building has been influenced by the structure of the eye; I find Calatrava can take a simple object and turn it into an astonishing complex piece of art. I have taken a few lines and shapes to influence a pattern to use in my designs.
This is one of my favourite pieces of architecture ever because of the shape, line, colour and design. Only a truly skilled designer can acheive something so magnificent and magical as this building, Ive spent lots of time wondering why I am attracted to this building. To be honest it appeals to me because of its futuristic look and its very forward in its design; it feels as if it could be a house in fifty years from now. I hope to bring this idea into my designs.

Tuesday

Sketchbook Pages

This is a baroque building which i have attempted to use the shape of the dome in a design idea, I feel it has worked well and is useful to use parts of an object to develop into a design as it is quite an effective outcome.

Something magical

Architecture has heavily influenced my inspiration behind my final project, these roman pieces of architecture are simply beautiful. I always feel a sort of romantic notions behind roman architecture because it is heavily associated in films, magazines and the media. And we are sucked into the idea of romance and legend of rome.
This is the trevi fountain where upon throwing a coin into the fountain would grant you to return to rome, two coins would embark a new romance, three coins would ensue divorce or marriage. This myth and traditional legends are profound in italy with architecture. I feel it promotes the architecture and that more people visit the buildings because of the stories. The fountain is in the baroque style, with the arches, windows and columns forming the basis of the design. Roman architecture was influenced by Greek architecture adopting certain features. Roman architecture has been revolved around public use either for religion, bullfights or gladitorial contests which have tend to create large open spaces with seating and a floor space.

My Second attempt at photoshop

This is my first illustrated image, wanted  to create a

These are my final illustrations, what I like about them are the contrast in mood of the figure smoking in a dress with a general attitude which is juxtaposed against the fresh fruit has the idea of a healthy lifestyle. The images contradict one another, makes the mood of the illustration less sexual and more strange.

Illustrated Photoshoot

This is my second time on photoshop with this image, I found it problematic to adjust the foreground image and to edit the images background so that it was transparent. This is basic adding an edited image to one of my airbrushed photos, and moving the image to create a white border.
This is my second attempt of combining the two images, the background image is of my friend(meant to be doing a silly face) and the foreground image is a drawing i have drawn after being inspired by Rikke jorgenson.(Link to post on Rikke Jorgensen)For this image I managed to rotate the foreground image and change the size to suit my background image, I prefer this image to the last because of how I have used scale and positioning of foreground image.

This is my final piece on this combination of images, this has to be my favourite because I have repeated my design and the colour, composition and mood of the illustration is exactly what I aimed to achieve when I started my photo shoot. The composition is balanced, which helps overall appearance of the illustration. I think the reason I am fond of this illustration is because of the attitude it provokes, the image shows attitude through emotion which provokes attention to the illustration and is the connection between you and the illustration.

When I first started the photo shoot I knew I wanted emotion to show and attract attention to my illustrations, so I could tap into people's emotions with my illustrations. I feel that this illustration achieves what I set out to do.

Thursday

Photoshoot to inspire ideas

Today I did a photoshoot with a friend, the main aim was to create fun portraiture that can be digitally edited and adding different media. The picture above is one of my favourite shots of creating fun portraiture mainly because of the colours and facial expression and the gesture the photo makes. The photo attracts and provokes attention, this is why I find the photo so appealing.
This is the one that is the silliest off the cuff expression, well that is how i would describe it. I wanted to capture silly expressions, to provoke and attract attention to the illustration.

These are a couple of the shots of what i hope to use for my illustrations, as the colour and facial expressions are what i aimed for at the start of my photoshoot.
