Sketchbook Pages

These are a few pages out of my sketchbook, the first one is a Baroque building which inspired me to use the detail of the windows and the dome shape to use for ideas. The second is a modernistic building in Dubai by Zaha Hadid is an Iraqi architect, who produces sculptural art in the form of architecture. I find his work highly influential however I don’t feel the lines are easy to translate onto designs. I have taken a few ideas from overall shape, that I feel can be used in my final designs. This building is in Dubai, and is one of my favourite pieces of architecture because of the shape and texture it creates.

Modernistic architecture helps me find and create new and innovative shapes/designs; I chose this building because I saw it as a challenge for myself. As when I first saw it I thought I could not get any ideas or inspiration from the shape colour or line. I drew a basic shape and then manipulated it to form a reflection of the shape to create an original shape; I feel that I have produced original futuristic shapes that can be adapted for multiple designs to suit all market levels. I feel that the plain shape or building that is heavily featured through most modernistic architecture is the hardest and most challenging to derive ideas from because of the plain shapes and angles; however
I feel I have overcome this by taking the simple line and experimenting to create a strong design idea.
